Polio is a viral disease that affects nerves and can lead to partial or full paralysis.There are three basic patterns of polio infection:subclinical ,non paralytic and paralytic.


Subclinical Infection:


headache
red throat
slight fever
sore throat
vomiting

Nonparalytic Poliomyelitis:


back pain
diarrhea
excessive tiredness
headache
leg pain
moderate fever
neck pain
pain in front and back
skin rash
vomiting

Paralytic

fever 5 to 7 days before other symptoms
bloated stomache
difficulty breathing
constipation
difficulty urinating
drooling
headache
poor temper control
muscle pain
muscle weakness
stiff neck
difficulty swallowing

Causes

Caused by an infection with the poliovirus,it spreads by direct person to person contact.The virus enters through the mouth and nose,multiplies in the thraot,and then absorbed and spread through blood and lymph system.

Medications

Antibiotics
pain killers
physical therapy
braces or orthopedic surgery

In an area where there is an outbreak,those most likely to get are children,pregnant women and the elderly.Polioimmunization prevents in most people.
